These are exciting times for the NHCT and its friends, with a major Heritage Lottery Fund grant awarded to enable us to publicize the churches and spread knowledge of them through a weekend of activities in April 2017. The Trust will be working in partnership with other organizations including the active Norwich churches and, we hope, those in other ownership.
A ‘taster’ weekend of events is planned for the Heritage Open Days weekend, 9–11 September 2016, so we are starting work now on plans, although much more will happen when we have a coordinator in post. It’s a great time to join the Friends, because we shall be looking to train a sizeable group of volunteers to provide tours of churches, man the churches when they are open, and so on. Please do consider joining us if you are not already a member, and tell your friends too!
We’ll post regularly as the September events take shape, but already in place is a series of readings on church-related and medieval themes, to take place at St Edmunds (Call to Prayer, Fishergate) on Saturday 10 September, from 2 to 4.30 pm. Organized by the Lasse Press, publishers of Of Churches, Toothache and Sheep, the first book that the NHCT has produced, it will include pieces from that book, and it will of course be on sale (all profits go towards the NHCT). More details will be available on www.lassepress.com.
